Stress-Testing Q4 with the Genius of Discernment 🧭

August asked your team to invent new paths. September is the filter. Before Q4 resources get locked in, Discernment (D) decides which ideas deserve oxygen — and which ones only feel good in the room.

Here is your 3-2-1 for the month: 3 Insights, 2 Questions, and 1 Actionable Nudge.

3 INSIGHTS ON DISCERNMENT

  1. Excitement is not evidence. A new campaign, tool, or partnership can generate energy and still be operationally unworkable. Discernment is the pause between “this is exciting” and “this is ready.”

  2. Gut checks need a structured home. People with Discernment often see the hidden obstacle first — and stay quiet if the room is already celebrating. If you do not ask for the risk, you will not hear it until it is expensive.

  3. Feasibility is a kindness. Killing a weak idea early protects the team’s Tenacity for the work that can actually finish. Discernment is not negativity. It is stewardship of time, money, and trust.

2 QUESTIONS TO PONDER

  1. Which H2 idea has the most enthusiasm and the least proof that we can execute it with the people and systems we actually have?

  2. Who on our team has the gift of Discernment — and do they have a formal moment to speak before we allocate resources?

1 ACTIONABLE NUDGE: Notice. Nudge. Normalize.

  • Notice: Excitement around a new H2/Q4 campaign or tool is high, but key technical or operational constraints are being overlooked. The conversation is moving from “should we?” to “when do we launch?”

  • Nudge: Call on Discernment by saying:

“Let’s take 5 minutes for a Pre-Mortem. What does your gut tell you is the single biggest hidden obstacle in this plan?”

Ask the quietest Discernment voice in the room first. Write the obstacles down before anyone solves them.

  • Normalize: Require a formal D-Signoff on feasibility before any strategic idea moves into resource allocation. The signoff is one page: what could fail, what must be true, and who owns the first test. No budget, hire, or public launch without it.

Discern first. Then commit!
