Resetting H2 with the Genius of Wonder 💡

Welcome to the H2 2026 edition of the Working Genius Digest! We're kicking off the second half of the year with a focus on the spark of all innovation: Wonder (W).

Here is your 3-2-1 for the month: 3 Insights, 2 Questions, and 1 Actionable Nudge.

3 INSIGHTS ON WONDER

  1. Wonder precedes strategy. Before you can build a great plan, you must ask a great question. Skipping Wonder leads to solving the wrong problems efficiently.

  2. Busywork kills curiosity. When teams operate in constant task-execution mode, the drive to ponder and question gets buried under deadlines.

  3. Wonder is a leadership risk. It takes courage to ask "Why?" when everyone else is moving fast. Great leaders create the psychological safety needed to pause and ask hard questions.

2 QUESTIONS TO PONDER

  1. When was the last time our team paused to ask if our current priorities are still the right ones?

  2. Are we rewarding people for solving problems, or also for identifying the right problems to solve?

1 ACTIONABLE NUDGE: Notice. Nudge. Normalize.

  • Notice: You're in a mid-year planning meeting and the team is rushing to execute H2 goals using exact copy-pastes of H1 tactics—even ones that didn't yield the expected results.

  • Nudge: Pause the meeting and invoke the W-Genius:

"Before we lock in these H2 tactics, let's practice Wonder for 10 minutes. If we were starting this initiative today from scratch with zero prior assumptions, what single core problem would we actually try to solve?"

  • Normalize: Dedicate the first 10 minutes of your monthly strategy sessions strictly to "Assumption Auditing" where no solutioning is allowed—only questioning.
